Why am I promoting a book that I'm still writing?
I've been wanting to write a novel for a long, long time. But I didn't know what I wanted to write about, only that I didn't want to write just to make a buck or two: I wanted to write something that had meaning, at least to me. "Write what you know" is always the advice, but it's not always very interesting.
Then the night of April 17, 2014, I awoke suddenly from a sound sleep, with a very rich, detailed idea. I furiously wrote out the initial inspiration, then spent several hours in the wee hours of the morning fleshing it out. What emerged was a very elaborate "lesson plan" for a school, with 60 different classes all about the human experience. I also wrote, "The sum does not equal the parts." I'm still trying to figure out what I meant by that.
Since that day, the idea has clarified, altered, and adapted. After all, the subconscious mind is very clever and creative, but not often very logical. So the story is in the 90% phase, the 10% being inspiration, and the rest a lot of work and research and revision. It's now in its 20th version (I'm guessing) and I haven't even gotten it entirely plotted yet!
I won't release the novel until I feel that same excitement for it that I felt that morning when I was so "rudely" interrupted by the workings of my own mind. I hope you'll love it as much as I will!
