Julie Starr, professional hypnotherapist

Julie has multiple passions, the oldest of which is making art, and the most gratifying is helping people via hypnotherapy. She also runs a small alpaca farm, writes fiction and non-fiction, enjoys managing her home and the woods in which it is situated, and loves the varied beauty that beach life offers.

The ability to see the remarkable qualities in everyday objects and experiences infuses her artwork, weaving a thread throughout various media. The desire to convert the ordinary into special merges with her other passion of science of human behavior, so Julie earned a BA in Art and a dual major in Psychology from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. In 2011, Julie was referred to the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI), and graduated from their online program in 2012. Now a hypnotherapist with over 500 hours of training, she is able to help others to achieve their goals.

Her private practice is focused on clients’ self-improvement, and complementing the efforts of other professionals for more complex issues, such as pain management and overcoming substance abuse. Whether clients seek assistance with weight loss, stress management, fears and phobias, career success, sports performance, or achieving quality sleep – to name a few – they can expect an honest, gentle and compassionate approach.

Julie says, "Each one of us has our struggles. We always will; I believe we humans require some degree of challenge in our lives. My overall goal is to discover each person’s ability to meet those challenges in a way that they can feel really good about themselves." As an artist, it’s also important to Julie to encourage creativity in others, whether for problem-solving or to stimulate imagination for creative purposes.

Julie sees clients in her office at the south end of Lincoln City's Delake district, but is also available for in-home sessions in the Portland/Salem area, on the phone, or over Skype. Additionally, she is available for group sessions, teaching classes about the therapeutic uses of hypnosis, and facilitating support groups.
